Marhavi FC slapped with R30k fine

Several heavy fines were imposed on teams competing in the Safa Vhembe regional leagues during the league’s disciplinary committee meeting held on 28 February at the Thohoyandou office.

Teams were punished for various offences, which included assault, refusal to play league games, and failure to provide security for match officials.

Marhavi FC was found guilty of assaulting a match official during their match against Josefa Black Movers. The team members and/or supporters also damaged the referee's car. They were fined almost R29,000.

During the meeting, Masisi Young Stars were fined R6,000 for failing to provide adequate security at their home ground when playing against Anel Real Vikings. Lwamondo Mighty Brothers refused to play the match against SMSA FC after the referee ordered them to do so and were fined R3,000.

Anel Real Vikings were found guilty of causing the abandonment of their match against Masisi Young Stars when the players refused to continue. They received a fine of R3,000 and forfeited the league points to Masisi. SMSA FC was fined R3,000 for arriving late and indirectly causing the abandonment of the match when they visited Manamani Blue Birds.

All fines must be paid within 30 working days. The Safa Vhembe general secretary, Mr Samuel Matodzi, warned all teams affiliated with the league to refrain from wrongdoing and stated they would face heavy fines if found guilty of assaulting match referees or abandoning matches. He emphasised that all cases should be finalised before the end of the season, ensuring that teams proceeding to promotional play-offs have no outstanding charges against them.
