Hlaluko wins Miss Limpopo 2024 title

Twenty-year-old Hlaluko Sambo from Mhinga village in the Malamulele area was crowned Miss Limpopo 2024 during a glamourous crowning ceremony that was held at Bolivia Lodge in Polokwane on Saturday, 25 November.

For Sambo, winning the beauty pageant was on her wish list for 2023. “I remember writing down my list of New Year’s resolutions at the beginning of the year. One of the things I wrote on my list was that I wanted to win a big title, and here I am, owning a provincial title. This is a dream come true for me. Apart from that, being a Miss Limpopo winner means being a leader and an inspiration to young people. Young people are great imitators, and I want to give them something to imitate.”

Sambo started modelling when she was in the eighth grade at Jim Chavani High School. “I participated in school arts and culture competitions, where there were various categories such as xibelani, poetry, storytelling, a beauty contest, Sarafina dance, makhwaya, and many others. I knew there was something I was good at under art and culture activities, so I chose the beauty contest. From there, my journey continued beautifully as it was not affecting my studies. I participated each year and would always take first place.”

She has also won other pageants outside her school. “My first pageant outside school was the Miss Juno’s Dashing Party in 2020, where I was crowned Queen. In 2021, I joined other pageants where some I lost and some I won, like the Miss Mhinga 2021 (first princess), Miss Classic Phophidi 2021 (second princess), and Miss Thohoyandou Ambassador 2021. In 2022, I took a break for a year to focus on my matric, and this year I entered the Miss Limpopo pageant,” she said.
