Young new traditional leader of Tanda village ready for challenges

Tanda village’s newly inaugurated traditional leader, 29-year-old Maanda Ashton Ndou Netanda, expressed his desire to bring change and move with the times. He spoke to Limpopo Mirror shortly after his inauguration, conducted by senior traditional leader Thovhele Vho Mmbangiseni Manenzhe at Musanda Tanda, near Folovhodwe last Saturday (6 January).

Tanda village falls within Ward 1 in Musina Municipality and has more than 800 households. The young traditional leader takes over from his father, Mutahabvu Vho Gumani Joseph Netanda, who passed away in 2006. As custom dictates, the new coronation name given to him is Musanda Vho Kharivhe Tshivhonammbi II. Robert Netanda was announced as ndumi and Azwinndini Netanda as khadzi.

Netanda said that, as a new traditional leader, his immediate task was to establish governance structures in his village, so that residents had proper access to services. “I have already consulted with the village elders and family members for us to quickly establish a khoro (council), the royal house, and my advisory body, which will be as inclusive as possible. We want everyone to participate in the running of this village because, in the long run, the fruit of inclusive governance benefits us all,” he said.

Thovhele Vho Manenzhe said Netanda’s installation would bring stability to the village as the villagers now had a permanent leader. He advised the new traditional leader to work closely with other mahosi, community structures, government departments, and the local municipality to bring development to his village.

In his remarks, Musina Mayor Nkhanedzeni Godfrey Mawela said that Musina Municipality had a very good working relationship with traditional leaders and urged Netanda to come on board as well.
