Vhembe's top learners congratulated by mayors and royals

One of the most senior traditional Vhavenda leaders, Mailausumbwa Kennedy Tshivhase, congratulated Vhembe’s top Grade 12 learners of 2023, stating that hard work and dedication had finally paid off. Tshivhase, joined by the executive mayor of Vhembe, Freda Nkondo, Thulamela Mayor Athingozwidivha Rambuda, Collins Chabane Mayor Shadrack Maluleke, and the Vhembe East district director, Dr Gerson Rambiyana, addressed the top achievers during a farewell lunch at the Nandoni Riverview Lodge outside Thohoyandou on Saturday, 20 January.

Through the Tshivhase Education Development Trust, each of the 23 top learners received R5,000 to help them during their first days at their respective institutions of higher learning. Tshivhase congratulated all the learners who have reached this significant milestone.

“The journey to this moment has been paved with sacrifices, marked by sleepless nights, and defined by unwavering dedication. I express my deepest gratitude for your resilience, hard work, and the achievements that we proudly celebrate here today. As you prepare to embark on the next phase of your life, I offer words of advice and guidance. Do not lose sight of your dreams; let them serve as your guiding stars. Choose your career path wisely, driven by passion and purpose, recognizing that each step you take is an opportunity to make a positive impact on your family, community, and the world,” he said.

The executive mayor of the Vhembe District Municipality (VDM), Cllr Freda Nkondo, was very happy with the quality results produced by the district and applauded the top achievers, saying they had made the district proud. Nkondo said the VDM would be more supportive through the Executive Mayor’s Bursary Fund, which helps deserving learners with their tuition fees and all necessary educational materials.
