R20,000 for the winner of Masawe Tournament

The 2023 edition of the Masawe Soccer Tournament was officially launched during a ceremony held at the Masawe Car Wash in Matatshe last Saturday morning. As usual, 32 teams from around Vhembe will take part in the tournament.

During the ceremony, the sponsor, Mr Masala Ramaphosa, indicated that he was impressed with the way the tournament had been run last year. Ramaphosa said that this year’s champions would become R20,000 richer. They will again be presented with soccer kits, gold medals, shin guards, a floating trophy, and a soccer ball. The runners-up will take home R10,000, a soccer kit, silver medals, and a soccer ball. Prizes for the teams that progress to the last-16 stage will also be given.

The fixtures for the opening-round matches were conducted during Saturday’s ceremony. The opening matches will be played at four different venues on Wednesday, 20 December.

Some of the opening-round matches not to be missed include the one between Napoli FC and Makhuvha Up the Ants and Mukula Young Santos vs Saudi Arabia FC at the Vhufuli Gooldville Grounds. The match between Khubvi Dangerous Darkies and Mukula Young Brothers at the Matatshe Materetereni Grounds is also expected to keep the spectators on the edge of their seats from the onset to the end.
