Tshikwani win Liguluvhe Cup

Joy and excitement abounded at the Ramantsha grounds on Sunday when Tshikhwani Stone Breakers were crowned as the champions of the Liguluvhe Easter Soccer Challenge. Stone Breakers took the coveted winners’ cup after beating Muraleni United Brothers 5-4 in a penalty shoot-out. The two teams played to a goalless draw in the final match.

The winning team’s manager, Mr Tsotso Mulaudzi, said that words could not express the extent of their joy. “We started preparing for the tournament early this year and kept telling ourselves that we would like to win,” said Mulaudzi. “Now that we have been crowned champions the second time in a row, our joy is not small. This only shows that our boys are hard workers who are not lazy during training sessions.”

Breakers were awarded a cash prize of R25,000, a floating trophy, a soccer kit, and 30 gold medals. Muraleni United Brothers, who ended second, received R20,000, a soccer kit, and 30 silver medals. The third and fourth teams in the tournament, Benny’s Care and Ramantsha Blackpool, received R5000 each.

One of the sponsors, Mr Rendani Mutheiwana, said that as sponsors they were happy to be part of the tournament, which had been well organised. “We want to assure the organisers and the communities of Sinthumule and Kutama that we will continue to help and assist where we can in terms of sponsorship,” Mutheiwana promised.

The chairperson of the organising team, Mr Mpfariseni Musekwa, said that the tournament had gone well. “There were some challenges along the way, though,” he said. “We have decided to invite the managers from all the teams who participated in the tournament to a post-mortem meeting next week, where we will address all these challenges.”

The deputy president of Safa Vhembe, Mr Ephraim Singo, also graced the event when he handed the floating trophy to the winning team.
