Mukula Young Santos win Monate Chicken Soccer Tournament

Mukula Young Santos emerged as the champions of the Monate Chicken Annual Soccer Tournament after defeating Thohoyandou Flying Stars 2-0 in the final match at the Lufule Sports Grounds on Monday, 1 April.

Participating in the tournament were eight teams from in and around Lufule, including Thohoyandou Flying Stars, Ngovhela Back Side, Tshikovha Arsenal, FC Basel, Mukula Young Santos, Rockers FC, Real Rovers, and Fergerson Bayen.

Mr Rendani Makhale, the managing director of Monate Chicken, initiated the annual Monate Soccer Tournament in 2018, recognising the need to engage community members, especially young people, during the Easter holidays. This year's tournament commenced on 31 March and concluded on 1 April, with co-sponsorship from MR21 Funeral and Muramba Function Hire.

Vhamusanda Kenneth Mphephu, the traditional leader of Lufule village, commended the initiative, stating, "We are pleased that there was a decrease in reported crime in Lufule and surrounding communities during the festive season. Keeping young people occupied helps prevent alcohol abuse."

Mukula Young Santos claimed the championship, receiving a soccer kit, a trophy, medals, and R5,000. Thohoyandou Flying Stars, the runners-up, were awarded a soccer kit, medals, and R2,000.
