With two matches remaining before the end of the current Motsepe Foundation Championship League soccer season, the future of Venda Football Club (VFC) is still hanging by a thread. The team must collect at least four points from the two remaining matches to retain their league franchise for at least another season.

The struggle for promotion and to avoid relegation at the end of the season will continue among the teams affiliated with the Limpopo Stream of the Sasol Women’s League this weekend. Seven matches will be played on Saturday afternoon, with only one scheduled for Sunday.

Teams affiliated with the Motsepe Foundation Championship League only have two more chances to improve their positions on the league log standings. The two teams that will take part in the promotional playoffs and the team that will accompany Platinum City Rovers to the lower division are likely to be known after Sunday’s games. Platinum City Rovers were effectively relegated after their 1-5 defeat last Sunday at the hands of Upington City at the Mxolisi Dicky Jacobs Stadium in Upington.

Gymnasts from the Wavhudi Gymnastics Club excelled during the regional competition that took place on 4 May at the Louis Trichardt Gymnastics Club. The winners of this event qualified to take part in the provincial championship to be held at Thabazimbi on 18 May.

Mpheni Defenders clinched the Stream A championship title in the Limpopo Stream of the ABC Motsepe League after defeating Madridtas FC 1-0 at Tshifudi Stadium in the final matches played on Saturday.

This weekend will be a busy one for the teams affiliated with the Limpopo Stream of the Sasol Women’s League. After their 0-2 defeat to Lacoste Morning Stars at the Tshandama Makhithani Grounds last Sunday, Tshandama Young Stars face another challenge this weekend as they host Sinthumulekutama FC at the same venue on Saturday.

Black Leopards must beat University of Pretoria FC (Amatuks) when they meet in their Motsepe Foundation Championship League match at the Thohoyandou Stadium on Sunday if they are serious about securing a place in the promotional playoffs at the end of the season.

Musasenda Big Five emerged victorious in the Mogudie Soccer Tournament, defeating Gondeni Big Cat 4-3 in a penalty shootout to claim the trophy at the Khubvi Benjie’s Grounds on Sunday. With no goals scored during regulation time, the winner was determined through the dramatic shootout.
